Just a follow up to my earlier post about making things freely available, and then deriving business out of either a) donations or b) full version sales after a free trial version.
An iPhone application developer has quit his day job after the rampant success of his game, iShoot. When originally released, the game was a bust, but after some tinkering, it was re-released as a free "Lite" version. The popularity of the game took off, and now he is earning $21,000 / day from the downloads of the "full" version, (at a mere $3 per game)
