New Layout

Yeah, I change it pretty often... Anyways, a more minimalist look. The 3 paint-streaks are sort of a personal logo - all my other stuff (resumes, business cards) have the same design on it. In case you were wondering, anyways.

Well, I'm building a portfolio, so I haven't really had time to write a new article... unfortunately. But that doesn't mean there isn't news~ so keep on the lookout!

Thank you and Goodnight!

Photobucket

The blog will be temporarily closed down tomorrow, for a while (maybe a week or so) for marking (it WAS originally a class project, after all, and the semester is winding down).

We've covered a lot of stuff, and it was fun. I fully intend to keep the blog live after the class ends, (no promises, though...) but the frequency of posts is likely going to drop. For a while, I was updating 3 times a day - it's too bad I've been so busy lately, or I would have liked to keep that pace up, (beats out my classmates who have to do like 5 posts tonight because it's due tomorrow though~). The economic conditions also means there's a surprising lack of news, as everything's grinding to a standstill (unless you're a BIG Twitter fan - then there's plenty to talk about)

Anyways, here's to 50 posts! A nice round number to take a little break~

The Base Guitar is important too

So, I've been ignoring fixing the background for a while, but let's face it: Pure white is a bit boring... Still having a hard time deciding what picture to use though...

Special thanks to Blogger Buster for this tutorial.

Random Subtitles

Look up - see that subtitle bar? It's randomized now (sort of) between around 6 different subtitles (hit refresh a few times to see a couple). Some things are changing on the site design, so updates are listed below.

Code is here for anyone who wants it. Thanks to BlogU. I'm going to see if I can track down how they made their Blogger toolbar retractable~

*Edit: Bingo. And this site = so bookmarked.

There's also a tutorial on how to put up a graphical menu (so I can stop using the "Labels" Option to list Topics / Table of Contents, since that's really not its original purpose (though my way improves site navigation in a low-budget sort of way). I'll try to get around to it eventually, though it's probably more trouble than it's worth.

Killing off the "Links" section, because really, there isn't much of a difference between links and news sources, (other than the links being "less corporate" by my perception and being slightly more business oriented). Anyways, to make things simpler, I'm just going to call everything "Links" - this will include sites I link to for News, for Business Opinions, and for Blog Design things (like Hackosphere and BlogU, which are both in there now for Design reasons).

I'm deleting Adsense. There are some issues with it beyond the obvious "it makes no money and your toolbar blocks it." First of all, I hate how it looks. Since it's only earned me 2 cents since this blog went up, I'm not sure if it's worth keeping. Which leads me to the second point - I have no idea how they're actually going to give me the money if I ever DO hit the mythical $100 mark. They won't let me fix my account (Google's been doing that to me a lot lately) and I'm not sure if they've got either a) my current address to mail it to me, or b) a working PayPal account to send it to, and they don't seem keen on me fixing it, so I'm scrapping it altogether - it's not like this is a for-profit site anyways (if it was, it's major fail since I put too much work for too little payout).

Some GUI and Link Changes

Some stuff updated for the site. Read more about the changes below the jump.

It's been like a month into this, and I'm still getting the hang of things. Anyways, some new stuff:

  1. New Header - 3rd one in the span of a month... Anyways, it's got a bit of a softer and less "busy" touch than the last one, so I like it.
  2. New Favicon - the little icon in the address bar / favorites section is no longer the Blogger "B" (it's now a suit with a red tie, which has pretty much been my theme for the whole blog for a while now). For anybody who wants to change their icon, you can get the tutorial here, (mine's a PNG file)
  3. Changed the Links - I didn't want the links to take people off my site, (since they're interspersed in stories, and if you get taken away, and have to click "back," you tend to lose your place). Anyways, now I have them set up to open all in the same new Window, while before, each link would open a separate new window, (which quickly became cumbersome). Not sure if I should just get them to open all in the same window... anyways, if anybody has it set up the same way, I simply changed the target="_blank" to target="new" in all the earlier posts.
I guess that's it for now~ like 25 posts in a month or so, I think I'm going at a fairly decent clip.

It's all pretty now!

Fixed some layout stuff, new header/blog title, etc. I like it - suits my personality (and matches all my stuff!)

Also, I was dumb and didn't save the light bulb picture from my old header, so when I wanted to edit the title, I had to come up with something new. *shrug* oh well.

Publicity is a fickle mistress

Getting yourself noticed isn't really all that fun - it involves a lot of putting yourself out there, and doing a lot of things you aren't all that proud of. Like nominating yourself for an award.

Oh, who would do such a thing...

Anyways, this blog is fairly new, but I am rather proud of the content - I feel like it's well researched, topical, in depth, etc., etc.

So how to get readers? Latching yourself onto bigger blogs works nicely (REMORA EFFECT!) - the ol' posting comments and linking back to your blog. The awards work nicely too - while it's not huge, at least a few readers will find you, and that's a start, at least.

What's my point... Oh yeah - you see those award buttons on the right side? Follow the link, and vote for my blog! You have to sign up, but it's free - and if you tell me, I don't mind voting for your blog either / trading links. I'm too impatient to wait for readers when going and getting some seems like a better use of my time.

P.S.: YES, I will get around to writing a full article "concept" blog soon. It takes around a week to aggregate enough news, links, etc. to do a full post, but to be honest, it bugs me if I spend too much time only doing little soundbites.

"Follow-Up to Concepts" Label

A little Admin work here - a new tag (Follow-Up to Concepts) is up! Click it to get all the short news links and follow ups to actual "article" posts. These little news things will be less conceptual and opinionated and more... linky?

...

Yeah, that's it.

OH! While I'm at it, I should have probably explained what the "Posts of Interest" links are - if it wasn't obvious. They are links of articles in this blog that are more or less "must read" for a thorough understanding of everything going on (as I reference my own opinions and theories a lot, and there is a twisted sort of logic there. Really).

Ironic

Nothing much to say here, other than I'm adding in Google Ads. I think it's pretty hilarious that a blog based on e-Marketing can have possibly the most ineffective online advertising method on it.

Even funnier is that my own ad-blocking program makes sure I don't even see it, hahaha~

The Manifesto - Intent, Future Plans

Welcome to my e-Marketing blog.

This blog was originally created for the class "Commerce 464 - e-Marketing." While the minimum level of posts is supposedly 10, I expect there to be a larger amount of actual content (maybe updated every week or so, but a flood of articles to start with)

The intent of this blog is to inform the reader about my thoughts on e-Marketing, namely the changes and innovations that I find of interest. Those posts will likely be labeled with the tag "Concepts" in the future.

Essentially, I want to discuss interesting things online that somehow stand out from the flood of banality that makes up maybe 90% of the internet, (how they stand out, why they stand out, etc.) Not all of the articles I post will be about actual e-Marketing though - I plan on taking things from other places if I think that there would be a practical application to e-Marketing.

In the meantime, I'll give you a quick list of things that I plan on talking about soon:

  • Wii advertising
  • Company-created contests
  • Internet fame capitalization
  • Potato Peelers

How are all those things related to e-Marketing? Wait and see, wait and see...

Special thanks to Blogger for hosting, and to Hackosphere for helping set up the post format.
